Week Eight – Aug 6-10 House Building Camp Three
In this camp, all the girls were experienced Poekie makers, and young and old created big or small penthouses with elaborate extensions. They cut tons of cardboard and fabric, they traced and glued, sewed and beaded these beautifully artistic houses. And they all went home with a ‘toy’ they love and will play with for a long time to come.
Week Seven – July 30-Aug 3 Endangered Species Camp Two
Kids in the species camps seem to bond more with each other than in any other camp. It’s as if the spirits of these vulnerable animals deepen their social connections. And such a learning curve in the real world! With beautiful, tangible results that they will enjoy and be proud of for years to come. Yet another perfect summer week!
Week Six – July 23-27 Drop In Only week
We had a nice quiet week with a bunch of great kids, catching our breath for a moment.
Week Five – July 16-20 House Building Camp Two
Another awesome house building week
Sixteen kids created houses for their Poekie this week. They designed, measured, cut and glued until the house of their dreams became a reality.
Week Four – July 9-13 Poekie Theatre
A Poekie Play week
Five girls spent this week imagining, writing, making and acting. The girls created the story, the set and the Poekies. We rehearsed for days until it was a beautiful play, and everyone became good friends. Again a perfect summer experience! Here is a link to the play: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rzZI4IpSkpY
Week Three – July 2-6 Poekie Scenes
Creating your own world
Eight girls spend this week making their own favorite place. Whether and island or a park, and ice-cream shop or party store, everyone envisioned the details in their chosen world and learned to create a 3D version of it with real materials. A perfect summer experience!
Week Two – June 25-29 Endangered Species
A week of learning and compassion
Only ten children were so fortunate to learn about an endangered animal of their choice. They made the animal, they wrote and decorated books about them, and the last three days we built their habitats. In the process the kids not only acquired great compassion for all the animals, they also successfully overcame a huge learning-curve in manual dexterity and thinking skills, and they all became good friends with each other. A perfect summer experience!
Week One – June 18-22 House Building
We started this summer with a bang. Sixteen girls were in a housebuilding frenzy. They made some super nice houses!
